Testimonials

  • Mrs. Malone is reliable, dedicated, and upbeat. She has an acting background so keeping a class focused and engaged far exceeds other teachers' abilities. The way she handles frustrated/angry students is also impeccable because of her patience, carefulness, and willingness to encourage and uplift someone who is having trouble.

  • Students feel comfortable coming to you with questions and they trust that you will be there to support them in whatever way(s) that calls for. You encourage creativity and risk-taking, which is so helpful for the development of confidence.

  • Based on the data alone, it's clear that Ms. Malone has been effective through the three years of this summative cycle. Her observation scores, PDP scores, UOI score are evidence of her hard work and dedication. Ms. Malone works diligently to prepare engaging lessons, deliver them in a variety of ways, and ensure students are aware of where they are in their learning.

  • The word that comes to mind when I think of Ms. Malone is “transformational”. I witnessed Ms. Malone transform the program from one dependent on VHS cameras and analog editing equipment to one with state of the art technology and real world opportunities for her students. Ms. Malone’s personal and professional knowledge, and her experience as an actor on stage and in film, have allowed her to create unique experiences for her students that directly engage with the community. When the film Up in the Air used the high school as a location for filming, Ms. Malone made sure her students were able to directly witness and engage in the filming process. Students were able to be on set and interact directly with director Jason Reitman and actors like George Clooney and Vera Farmiga. Ms.Malone’s students have also been able to interact with local professional film crews, visiting studios and sets to get real-world hands-on experiences in the world of professional theater and film.

  • Over the course of the time that I have worked with Colleen, she has demonstrated the organization and composure to transition to nearly any assignment and create valuable and engaging learning opportunities regardless of the obstacles she faces. However, perhaps the most significant skill that I have noticed with Colleen is her ability to connect with students and develop secure and effective relationships. Students regularly seek her out just to say hi or catch up with her. Colleen has also consistently demonstrated a willingness to work with even the most challenging students and continue to problem solve to make them successful.

  • Colleen is a confident and capable teacher. Throughout her time in our building, she has been a self-starter. Colleen uses a variety of resources including collaboration with grade level teachers and online teaching web-sites. Colleen then adapts the ideas with our students’ needs in mind. Her content is engaging for even the most reluctant learners, including our ELL population.

  • She learned new editing procedures and working with the district tech staff, equipped a whole studio with all the latest editing equipment. She also learned how to use the equipment and taught the students how to manage the TV production, but also how to set up a studio. Students were assigned projects where they filmed and produced these projects.

  • Colleen is an asset to the school community. She builds strong relationships with her colleagues and advocates for the betterment of the school as AEA secretary. Colleen produced an impressive weekly school news show while teaching Television Production. Her class sponsored a charity each year and collected items throughout the school year. For example, in 2019 the Television Production class visited Nurses for Newborns and created a segment about the work that they do. They collected diapers, clothes, and other donations throughout the year. After school was closed at the start of the pandemic, they continued to collect and were able to make a large donations of goods at the end of the year. This is one of many examples of Colleen going above and beyond her classroom duties to facilitate an impactful experience for her students.
